The response team to prevent conflicts between humans and wildlife at the Natural Resources Ministry of the Khabarovsk Territory delivered a female Amur tiger aged between three and four years to the Utyos Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
The tigress was seen several times in the Solontsovy village of the Lazo District last August and September. The decision was made to catch the predator to prevent it from threatening local residents. The response team caught the tigress on 3 November and named her Tikhonya (Timid Girl). Head of the Amur Tiger Center’s Far Eastern Branch Sergei Aramilev said: “The trapping of the tigress in the Khabarovsk Territory and recent cases in the Primorye Territory again confirmed the need to develop a network of rehabilitation centers in the tiger’s habitat. We must have at least several centers to ensure that they are doing effective work.”
The tiger caught in Vladivostok in late October is now recovering in the Tiger Center. The other tiger caught in the suburbs of Artyom of the Primorye Territory, who was also brought to the center, has already been released into the wild. He found his way around and is now far enough from residential areas.
