Another tiger caught in Primorye Territory suburbs

Another tiger caught in Primorye Territory suburbs

28 October 2016

Another Amur tiger was brought to the Centre for the Rehabilitation and Reintroduction of Tigers and Other Rare Animals (PRNCO “Tiger Centre”) by employees from the Primorye Territory Department of Hunting Supervision. The tiger was captured immediately after eyewitness reports that the animal had killed a cow in the village of Uglovoye near the town of Artyom. This is the second tiger caught by department employees near a residential community: the first one, captured in Vladivostok, is now successfully rehabilitating at the Tiger Centre.

Experts from the centre assessed the condition of the predator. They found him to be healthy and decided that he should be released into the wild as soon as possible. The tiger is a three-to-four-year-old male that weighs 170 kg. Currently they are trying to identify the tiger using images from camera traps to figure out the region he came from in order to release him in his natural habitat.

The tiger will be fitted with a GPS collar so experts can monitor his location and prevent the tiger from coming close to villages.
