Tigers Pavlik and Yelena set off into the Amur taiga

The temporary enclosure in the taiga that held the tigers Pavlik and Yelena after their journey to the Amur Region was opened remotely with the help of wire ropes. The tigers headed into the taiga and have already covered a large distance, said Sergei Aramilev, general director of the Amur Tiger Centre.

“According to data from the tigers’ tracking collars, the tigers left the enclosure and went a far distance. This stage was a success. Now we are waiting for the first group of data points, or clusters, to form – an accumulation of dots that will show us that the tigers probably had a good hunt. When we get the first clusters, we will send specialists there to determine why the tigers stayed in the same place for a long time. It would be great if they had a couple of successful hunts for hoofed prey there,” he said.

Aramilev added that the tigers are not travelling together through the taiga, but it is too early to say whether they are moving in the same direction or apart because tigers can cover up to 30 km in a day.
