Representatives of the Amur Tiger Centre (ATC) and the Khabarovsk Territory Ministry of Natural Resources signed a cooperation agreement after their working meeting in Khabarovsk. The participants noted that their cooperation on developing methods for the study and conservation of the Amur tiger population is a priority. They paid special attention to joint information support for the protection of Amur tigers, including holding environmental education events such as exhibitions, conferences, thematic seminars and roundtable discussions.
The ATC and the Khabarovsk Territory Ministry of Natural Resources have been cooperating for many years. The ATC regularly sends to organisations subordinate to the ministry various equipment for preventing and settling possible tiger-human conflicts, and camera traps. In turn, the ministry supplies the ATC with information on the status of tigers for their monitoring efforts.
“Although tigers live only in a part of the Khabarovsk Territory and their population is about a hundred, this part is a key area that ensures the stability of the entire population. There is potential for an increase in the number of tigers and their habitat,” said Sergei Aramilev, director of the ATC’s Far Eastern branch.
The signing of the cooperation agreement will expand the opportunities of the parties in implementing the plan for Amur tiger conservation in 2016-2020 that was approved by the Khabarovsk Territory governor in September 2015.
