Name the Tiger project

Name the Tiger project

27 October 2016

The Name the Tiger project has been launched with the support of the Amur Tiger Centre to choose a name for a tiger that recently arrived at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of Tiger (PRNCO “Tiger Centre”).

The contest will have two stages. Those wishing to participate should send in their entries by 2 November as part of the first stage. Then a shortlist of the best ideas will be compiled, and online voting will be launched to pick the best name for the tiger. Anyone will be able to vote on the centre’s website on 3-15 November.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoi came up with a name: he suggested naming the tiger Vladik in honour of the city of Vladivostok, where the tiger was caught. The Amur tiger was captured by workers from the Primorye Territory Hunting Supervision Department within the city limits and then transported to the Tiger Centre for rehabilitation. Experts believe that the tiger will rehabilitate successfully and will be returned to the wild.
