Vladivostok celebrates Amur Tiger Day on 25 and 26 September

22 September 2021

On 25 and 26 September, Vladivostok will be the venue of the traditional festive events to celebrate Amur Tiger Day. Environmental organisations will erect a big marquee on Admiral Square in the historical centre of Vladivostok where there  will be games, quizzes and workshops and where awards will be presented.

The aim of the event is to attract public attention to the need to preserve wildlife, including the Amur tiger. Due to the epidemiological situation the traditional carnival procession had to be cancelled. However, the Amur Tiger Centre, the Vladivostok authorities, the Primorye Territory government and the Russian Geographical Society prepared events that will go on for two day at local venues.

During the festivities, Land of the Leopard National Park, home to 41 adult Amur tigers, will give visitors a chance to take part in environmental quizzes and games. Children will compete in tiger chalk drawing contests on asphalt. Festival-goers will have an opportunity to buy souvenirs and be photographed with volunteers in tiger and leopard outfits. The venue will be open from 12 pm to 4 pm on Sunday, 26 September.

In addition to all this, at Vladivostok International Airport there will be a dance flash mob, a drawing contest on asphalt, a lottery and a quiz for passengers. Also, anyone who wishes will be able to get their face painted.
