The 20th International Tiger Day Festival takes place in Vladivostok on 29 and 30 September. This environmental event has been held on the last Sunday of September since 2000 and became official in 2001. Its goal is to draw public attention to the conservation of wildlife, including the Amur tiger.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the festival participants and guests, in which he noted that major results had been achieved over the past few years in the conservation of the Amur tiger, increasing its population.
This year festival-goers will be able to send Tiger Day postcards that were issued following a children’s drawing contest and designed by a professional illustrator. The postcards are available on the Sportivnaya Gavan embankment on 28 September and on the central square on 29 September and can be sent anywhere around the globe for free.
Writer and naturalist Vladimir Troinin was the originator of the idea of holding an event dedicated to the main animal of the Ussuri taiga and the symbol of the Primorye Territory. The Amur Tiger Centre has been supporting the event since 2013.
