Nature Park on Russky Island to sponsor tiger rehabilitation centres

Vladivostok’s future nature park on Russky Island, which will house several Amur tigers that cannot be released into the taiga, will give its proceeds to the rehabilitation centres for this rare species.

“It will be a nature park, with an Amur tiger museum and tiger enclosures. It will be like a safari park in area. There will be two or three tigers, which will live in large beautiful enclosures. The city will have a place where visitors can see the tigers that does not cause the animals pain,” said Sergei Aramilev, general director of the Amur Tiger Centre.

According to Aramilev, the park will meet all international requirements for the safe keeping of animals.

“The park will house animals that cannot be released into the wild. It will be a source of funding for rehabilitation centres that prepare wild tigers to return to nature, including the Centre for the Rehabilitation and Reintroduction of Tigers and Other Rare Animals (Tiger Centre) in Primorye,” said the director of the Amur Tiger Centre.

According to Sergei Aramilev, this practice is widespread.

“This is a common practice around the world, when the state creates safari parks with the help of private investors and sends the profits from their work to rehabilitation centres for animals that are then released into the wild, or animals that cannot be put on display, for example, injured ones – they also need a place to stay,” said Aramilev.

The foundation stone for the future nature park of the Far East and the Amur tiger museum was laid in September 2018. The Amur Tiger Centre will be the main investor of this park. A timeline has not yet been set for its construction.
