Botchinsky Nature Reserve hosts an Amur tiger count seminar

14 November 2017

On 7 November, a regular seminar was held at the Botchinsky Nature Reserve on the Amur tiger count. The reserve is one of the model areas in the Khabarovsk Territory where rare cats monitoring is conducted.

The main speaker at the seminar was Irina Kostomarova, head of the reserve’s research division, who has been involved in many counts. The seminar covered information about the Amur tiger population at the protected area: change in range; spatial, gender and age distribution; reproduction and mortality rates; causes of death; habitat condition and food supply; and human impact.

Last winter, four tigers were counted at the Botchinsky Nature Reserve – an adult and a young male and a female with a cub.
