Land of the Leopard National Park releases anti-poaching mobile app

26 September 2017

The security department of the Land of the Leopard National Park has launched a single registry of offences as a mobile app.

The online database is expected to help the controlling authority optimise its work and identify violators faster. An inspector will use special software to access the history of anti-poaching activities from 2011, including poaching case photos and location coordinates on map, and the history of the suspect’s trespassing on specially protected areas.

“The system allows using the database remotely, on the spot while patrolling the area, which is a valuable advantage,” said Yevgeny Stoma, Land of the Leopard deputy director for security. “Naturally, this system has several levels of protection. The apps are fully autonomous and can work offline, which is especially relevant where there is no mobile network in the woods. For security purposes, the data on user devices can self-destroy if it registers an attempt by a third party to gain access or in the event that a phone or tablet is lost. At the same time, the system is easy to use and designed specifically for Land of the Leopard,” he said.
