Amur Tiger Day to be marked in Ussuriysk for the first time

13 September 2017

The Ussuriysk administration has reported on the city’s preparations for the environmental holiday Tiger Day, marked on 24 September. The programme includes a costume parade, dance festival, eco-costume contest, drawing and art projects, various workshops and a concert.

Amur Tiger Day has been celebrated in the Primorye Territory annually since 2000 and is a hallmark of the region. At first, only Vladivostok observed the holiday, but now it has the status of a national and international holiday. Ussuriysk will mark Amur Tiger Day for the first time.

The event is intended to draw public attention to the importance and challenges of protecting and preserving such rare cats as Amur tigers. Russian President Vladimir Putin called Amur Tiger Day in the Far East the country’s brightest environmental event.
