A sculpture dedicated to Amur tigers will be unveiled in Moscow on 18 August to mark the 172nd anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society. The monument will stand on Myasnitskaya Street, in central Moscow.
The sculpture depicts two tiger cubs deeply engaged in discovering the surrounding world and their forest neighbours. The work’s creator, Pyotr Chegodayev, said he took his inspiration from a video recording made using photo traps in one of the Russian Far East’s tiger reserves. The monument aims to draw public attention to the need to protect the environment and the endangered Amur tiger.
The sculpture and the unveiling are sponsored by the Amur Tiger Centre, and is taking place as part of the Year of the Environment and the Year of Protected Nature Reserves in Russia.
