The premier screening of the investigative film Tigers and Humans will take place at the 39th Moscow International Film Festival on 27 June 2017. The documentary was shot by Sergei Yastrzhembsky with support from the Tiger Centre.
The film is about tiger poaching, which went on for decades. Tiger skins are considered a valuable trophy in China, where tiger bone wine is brewed and tiger meat is an exotic delicacy. The filmmakers tried to answer the question why humans remain the main threat to the survival of the Amur tiger. Although Russian and Chinese government authorities and public organisations have been working for years to try and protect this rare animal, poachers kill up to 20 Amur tigers every single year.
