Tigress Anna Savelyevna becomes a mother for the ninth time

17 October 2016

A trail camera at the Sikhote-Alin Biosphere Reserve has captured images of tigress Anna Savelyevna with a cub. Experts believe the youngster, which is three to four months old, is the ninth cub of the prolific mother. Eight other ones have grown up already and now live in the reserve on their own.

Anna Savelyevna is well up in years. She is no less than 13 years old. The predator was given her name by the Tiger student team in 2014 to memorialise the first woman in the USSR who was conferred the honorary title of Mother-Heroine. The tigress has been monitored by the specially protected natural area’s personnel since 2006.
