Uporny successfully adapts to the wild

1 June 2016

The Amur tiger Uporny has successfully adapted to living in the wild on his own.

“We plan to take off his collar this summer, very soon,” said Vasily Tolstykh, deputy natural resources minister of the Khabarovsk Territory. “He has undergone all the checks and is considered to be doing well in the wild. The GPS collar will automatically come off the tiger’s neck.”

He said several tigresses also lived in the area where Uporny had settled but there was no information about him forming a couple with any of them.

Uporny came to a village in the Vyazemsky District in November 2014. After he attacked a dog, he was caught and placed in the Utyos rehabilitation centre, where he stayed until 28 May 2015, when he was released into the wild.
