An emaciated tigress found on the border of Land of Leopard National Park has settled into life in an enclosure. On 8 April, a day dedicated to neighbourliness by the national park, she will be given a name chosen by the residents of the village of Filippovka in the Primorye Territory, who found her last January.
On this day at 3 pm, a polling station and a temporary office will open at the local first-aid station to issue passes to Land of the Leopard. The locals will receive ballots and a list of names for the young tigress they can vote on; they also will be able to put forward their own suggestions.
“We are very thankful to the civic-minded people of Filippovka. They behaved very responsibly and contacted experts of Land of the Leopard in time, saving the life of this young animal. Such neighbourly relations between national parks and local communities do not develop in one day – it takes years; we will continue developing them,” said Zilya Ibatullina, deputy director for tourism and environmental education at Land of the Leopard.
