Striped Express launched in the Moscow Metro

28 September 2015

A themed train, Striped Express, was launched on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line of the Moscow Metro on 27 September to mark Amur Tiger Day.

The train has been decorated with images of Far Eastern flora and fauna on the inside, and each carriage is devoted to a certain season: summer, autumn or winter.

“The Moscow Metro has taken part in the Striped Express project of the Russian Geographical Society, the Amur Tiger Centre and the autonomous non-profit organisation Far Eastern Leopards. Vladivostok is celebrating Amur Tiger Day, the main environmental holiday in the Primorye Territory to support this rare animal, this last weekend of September,” Ivan Ostashko, Moscow Metro spokesman, said at the gala launch ceremony.

He said this project would help preserve the rare wild cats and the environment.

This train, the 11th themed train of the Moscow Metro, is special because the floor in its carriages is covered with vinyl images too. “The vinyl is durable, it has been tested at the turnstiles at Lubyanka station. It took us four days to complete the work,” said deputy metro chief and head of the Moscow Metro's rolling stock Oleg Zaitsev.
