On 26-27 September, Vladivostok will celebrate its 16th Amur Tiger Day. Celebrations will last for two days and culminate in a concert on the city’s central square. This year’s Amur Tiger Day has been organised by the Amur Tiger Centre and Amurchik administrations of Vladivostok and the Primorsky Territory.
The second book in the Amurchik, or The Adventures of Amurchik, the Tiger Cub series will be presented during the festival. Various contests and quizzes will be organised for children. A stele depicting the results of all Amur tiger counts held since 1940 will be unveiled near the monument to the Amur tiger, a gift to the city from the Amur Tiger Centre in 2014. Attending the ceremony will be Konstantin Chuychenko, Head of the Presidential Control Directorate and Chair of the Amur Tiger Centre’s Supervisory Board, Sergei Donskoi, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Primorye Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky and Vladivostok Mayor Igor Pushkaryov.
On Sunday, 27 September, there will be a colourful fancy-dress parade on Okeansky Prospekt. Representatives of the indigenous peoples of the Far East will march down the street in ethnic costumes, followed by children and adults from across the region, dressed as tigers and holding posters calling for the protection of the Far East’s unique nature.
