Amur Tiger Centre releases film on the tiger count

23 March 2015

The short documentary The Amur Tiger Count 2015, produced by the Amur Tiger Centre, shows the counters travelling to observation sites and locating tiger tracks, spending nights in winter shelters and discussing points of disagreement. The film features many shots of the nature of the Russian Far East, and of course, Amur tigers themselves.

The main character in the film is Sergei Aramilev, Director of the Primorye branch of the Amur Tiger Centre and the tiger count coordinator in the Spassky, Kirovsky, Lesozavodsky, Dalnerechensky and partly Chernigovsky and Ussuriisky districts of the Primorye Territory.

“This year, documentaries will be aired on TV about all aspects of the efforts to protect and count Amur tigers,” Aramilev said. “During the count, we tried to give as many details as possible on what it consists of, why it is necessary and how it was organised. But, of course, a picture is worth a thousand words, so we decided to make a film about it. Everyone who took part in the count is featured in this film.”

In February, the preliminary results of the Amur tiger count were released. The initial data confirmed the expansion of the tiger habitat in the Far East. The final results will be published by October 2015.
