Ilona the tiger settles down at Khingan reserve

22 December 2014

A female Amur tiger named Ilona has made her home at the Khingan reserve in the Amur Region, 90 kilometres from the Zhelundinsky reserve, where she was released into the wild in May 2014.

Experts at Khingan have concluded that the tigress made her decision after roaming around the Arkharinsky, Bureisky and Obluchenksy districts for a long time.

Ilona’s behaviour has changed, game wardens say. Earlier this year, she visited Khingan to get the lay of the land, but now she has started marking the territory she considers her own.
