A bronze monument to the Amur tiger, reading “To the king of the taiga, the Amur tiger, and the caring people who guard him,” was unveiled in Vladivostok.

On 27-28 September, the people of the Far East celebrated Amur Tiger Day for the 15th time. The monument was a gift to Vladivostok from the Amur Tiger Centre.

The Chairman of the Amur Tiger Centre Supervisory Board, Konstantin Chuichenko, said that the monument is devoted to wildlife, and should remind us all that we need to preserve it for future generations.

Primorye Territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky believes that the Amur tiger is not just a wild feline living in the territory, but a symbol of Primorye. He thanked the Amur Tiger Centre for the gift, and also President Vladimir Putin for the initiative to preserve the rare feline.

Mt Miklushevsky believes that the Government has done a lot to enable the Amur tiger to live peacefully in its natural habitat. The Governor urged the public to join the efforts, because the Amur tiger is a valuable asset of Primorye, Russia and all humankind.
