Amur Tiger Centre launches competition to improve environmental laws

A nationwide Russian student research paper competition, “The Particularities of Legal Regulations in Environmental Protection of Wildlife Species and Habitat Management,” will be held from 26 September through 23 November, the Amur Tiger Centre, the event’s organiser, reported on its website.

 

Students and post-graduate students of law departments at Russian universities are invited to participate in the competition, aimed at improving environmental legislation. The entries will be evaluated by a jury of environmental experts.

 

Cash prizes of 50,000 roubles (first place), 30,000 roubles (second place) and 20,000 roubles (third place) will be awarded to the winners, plus the opportunity to contribute to the laws on the protection of wildlife, including rare and endangered species and their habitats.

 

The best research papers submitted to the competition will be included in a book of scientific works to be published later, according to the centre’s head Sergei Lobashkov. In addition, the most promising contestants will receive offers to cooperate with the centre.

 

Entries must be submitted no later than 23 November. The winners will be announced on 1 December 2014.
