The Second Stocktaking Conference under a Global Tiger Recovery Programme took place in Bangladesh on 16 to 18 September. The conference was attended by a delegation from the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the ministry’s website reports.
The agenda included increasing the potential for the preservation of the tiger, and the issues of poaching and extermination.
The conference was held under the agreements reached between the Bangladesh Ministry of Environment and Forests, the Secretariat of the Global Tiger Initiative and the International Tiger Forum.
The conference concluded with a document outlining recommendations for tiger preservation that included protecting its habitat, working with locals, stepping up cross-border cooperation between the countries of the habitat, better cooperation with industry and business and monitoring the tiger’s numbers, food base and habitat.
