Flying tiger above the Far East

Flying tiger above the Far East

23 August 2014

A flying tiger aircraft has been launched by the Amur Tiger Centre and Aurora Airlines

On 21 August, an Aurora Airlines Airbus A319 featuring the logo of the Amur Tiger Centre landed at the Vladivostok International Airport. The picture of an Amur tiger has been painted on the aircraft’s fuselage to remind the passengers that a tiger is not a threat, but the pride of Russia and a symbol of environmental well-being of the Far East.

The tiger ‘livery’ was created by the Amur Tiger Centre and Aurora Airlines as part of a joint campaign to attract public attention to the issue of preserving the Amur tiger population.

The new aircraft with the picture of a tiger on its fuselage will be performing regular flights on all of the airline’s routes. The company operates flights between the Far East and Siberia and international flights.

The Amur Tiger Centre was established last summer by the Russian Geographical Society at the initiative of President Vladimir Putin. The centre’s experts drafted recommendations on efforts to improve the legal framework for the preservation of wildlife and flora species. They also provide technical support and new equipment for the hunting oversight services, maintain specially protected areas and promote environmental awareness.
