Vladimir Putin issues instructions on the conservation of rare felines

The President has instructed the Government and regional authorities to protect the Amur tiger and the Far Eastern leopard and to create their conservation areas

 

By 1 February 2014, the Government and the authorities of the Primorye and Khabarovsk territories have been instructed to draft and adopt an action plan to track and register all the Amur tigers and Far Eastern leopards and to determine the amount and sources of the necessary funding.

 

By 1 January 2014, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, working jointly with the Presidential Executive Office, is to finalise and to approve an action plan and a strategy for the conservation of the Far Eastern leopard and a reintroduction programme, which provides for the creation of a Far Eastern leopard captive breeding and reintroduction centre.

 

By 1 May 2014, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment are to submit proposals for the publicly financed system of training experts to work with rare and endangered animals living in the region.

 

By 25 December 2013, the Government and the Primorye Territory administration are to prepare and to adopt a regulatory act “aimed to create a special protected area in the upper and middle reaches of the Bikin River in the form of a national park, with a focus on resolving the issue of representation of local, small indigenous ethnic groups in the park management.”

 

By 1 February 2014, the Government and the authorities of the Primorye and Khabarovsk territories are to discuss the possibility of establishing protected areas in the state preserves and national parks located in their territories.
