Orphaned tiger rescued in Primorye

22 February 2013

The administration of the Primorye Territory reported that game managers have caught an orphaned tiger cub in the Kavalerovsky District of this region. The cub tried to hunt but was doomed to die due to his young age. Vladimir Vasilyev, head of the regional department on the protection, control and regulation of fauna, said that a group of experts had been tracking the tiger cub for three days. His footprints showed that he tried to hunt but was unsuccessful because he was too small and was not powerful enough. At such an early age he should have been fed by his mother, who had apparently died.

"The tiger cub is very active and even tried to fight with our experts," Vasilyev said. According to the department, on Friday, February 22 he will be taken to the Primorye Agricultural Academy in Ussuriysk where he will be examined by vets. Later, the tiger cub will be taken to the rehabilitation centre in the village of Alexeyevka of the Nadezhdinsky District.
