Tigress rescued in Primorye is recovering

12 February 2013

An orphaned tigress named Svetlaya was caught in Primorye in an exhausted condition. A representative of the Utyos rehabilitation centre for wild animals said she is feeling better following an operation on her paw and intensive therapy. She received antibiotics, vitamins and biostimulators as treatment for double pneumonia and for quick tissue regeneration. For a whole month the tigress's diet consisted of beef, pork, rabbit meat and meat by-products.

In a month vets examined the tigress again. Her paw was back to normal, her lungs were clear and her fur and skin had improved. "The tigress has become physically stronger. She is healthy and has gained more than 15 kg. Her behavior is aggressive. During her stay in captivity she will develop the skill to hunt for wild animals of the Far East," the centre representative said.

Before being released into the main constraint, the tigress will spend a month in a cage for adaptation. Experts of the centre believe that after a complete rehabilitation course she may be released into the wild in late August-early September 2013.
