Tiger cub rescued from a trap in Primorye is improving

Vladimir Vasilyev, head of the Primorye department on the protection and regulation of fauna, said that an orphaned tiger cub named Valentina is doing better. She was rescued from a trap in the Kavalerovsky District of the Primorye Territory. She is now being kept together with her brother.

Game managers caught the six-month-old tiger cub on February 14. Her paw had gotten caught in a small trap. Vets immediately removed two phalanges. The tiger cub, who was totally exhausted, was taken home by a game manager from Ussuriysk. He named her Valentina.

"We were worried about the tigress, but now she is feeling much better and is obviously on the mend," the department representative said.

He added that the young tigress has an excellent appetite and is quickly gaining weight. Experts say she feels better because she is now being kept with her brother.

"It is absolutely clear that the tiger cub caught in the Kavalerovsky District a week after Valentina is her brother. Our employee keeps both of them together. Later we'll decide where to move them," the representative said.
