15 January 2013

At a meeting in Moscow on January 15, 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina declared that activities for the preservation of the world’s tiger population would be continued.

“Our countries are united through mutual efforts for the preservation of tigers on Earth. There are 450 tigers left in Russia and 300-500 in Bangladesh. Mrs Prime Minister took an active role in the preparation and holding of the St Petersburg International Forum on the Preservation of Tigers in 2010,” Vladimir Putin said in his press statement on the results of the Russian-Bangladesh talks.

Sheikh Hasina expressed hope that the mutual work for the conservation of the tiger population would be continued. “You invited me to join the summit on the problems of tiger conservation. In Bangladesh there are vast mangrove forests, a tigers’ habitat, which makes conservation of the animal and the forests very important. I sincerely thank you for the initiative. I hope we will cooperate on tiger conservation,” the Prime Minister of Bangladesh announced.
