New data were received at photo traps installed in the nature reserve near the Chinese border. The first appearance of female tigers Svyzistka and Albara, who wear satellite collars, was recorded in the autumn of 2010 and 2011, respectively. However, the tigresses have never been recorded by photo traps before. Satellite monitoring data was lost after several months of tracking, due to transmitter failure, and the animals' location was unknown. Using the photos, scientists can now estimate the tigers' migration patterns. For example, Svyazistka has expanded her natural habitat considerably.
There is also news about Serga, the tigress Prime Minister Putin attached a satellite collar to in August 2008. The big cat is safe and sound and hardly ever leaves its habitat in the Ussurian Reserve in the winter.
The Amur Tiger Programme will be continued in the summer and autumn of 2012.
