According to the VHF transmitter in the tiger's collar, the predator is hiding in the trees about 200 metres from its enclosure. Animal specialists have cordon off the area. Alternatives are being discussed as to how to catch the tiger.
Roskosh is frightened and won't leave her hiding place, say specialists of the Russian Academy of Sciences permanent expedition. The forest which the tigress is hiding in is small and surrounded by roads and open fields.
The tigress escaped early the previous day by opening the door bolt with her paw, the specialists believe. The zoological centre is part of the Institute of Biology and Soil Sciences lab at the Far Eastern branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The centre, located in the village of Gaivoron, the Spassky district of the Primorye Territory has studied the biology and life of the Amur tiger for almost two decades. The animals are kept in spacious enclosures that resemble, as much as possible, their natural habitat.
