First Siberian tiger born at Priamursky Zoo moves to Perm Zoo

"The tiger cub Agatik turned eight months on July 15 and is now ready for this long journey," Yelena Aseidulina, Acting Director of the Vsevolod Sysoyev Priamursky Zoo, said. "Next week it will be taken by air to Perm Zoo. We have already agreed this with Khabarovsk airport."

 

Aseidulina said a lot of zoos had competed to become the tiger cub's future home, but that Perm Zoo had been chosen because it is already home to a young female tiger.

 

Tigers in the wild breed every two years. Gestation lasts from 95 to 112 days And litter size between two and four cubs. Mother will never leave her cubs during the first week. The cubs remain with their mother for at least 18 months to two years. Even when they start living on their own they usually spend several months together as a group in their mother's territory.
