Two more tigers in the Far East hooked up to satellites

Members of the permanent expedition of the Russian Academy of Sciences, carrying out the Amur Tiger Programme in the Far East, have fitted two more tigers with the Argos satellite collar.

They caught an adult male in the Ussuriysky Reserve. He is not a stranger to the researchers. They have already recorded his image with photo traps and conducted DNA tests on him. The tiger's name is Banzai. He is heavier (207 kg) than Professor, a male that was tagged earlier, but smaller in size.

The second tiger, a female, was caught in the Leopardovy Reserve, not far from the Russian-Chinese border and also fitted with a collar.

Several days before, an Amur tiger male was also caught in the Leopardovy Reserve and fitted with a Russian made collar. The transponders fitted to these animals are working well. Researchers receive current data regarding their whereabouts.
