In late summer 2008 Vladimir Putin took personal control of the Amur Tiger Protection Programme, the main aim of which was to study the seasonal migration patters and numbers of Amur tigers in Russia. The collar which Vladimir Putin put on the tiger Serga has stopped working, but the study of Amur tigers continues.
