Russia and Norway coordinate polar bear conservation plans

The first meeting of a working subgroup on polar bear conservation and a working group on biodiversity cooperation was held in Trondheim, Norway, on 2-3 November.

 

The parties discussed the preservation, survey and monitoring of the Barents Sea polar bear population and drafted a joint plan of work for 2017-2018.

 

The Russian delegation at the meeting included representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Rosprirodnadzor), Russian Arctic National Park, the Pasvik Nature Reserve, the Kandalaksha Nature Reserve, the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute and WWF Russia.

 

Norway was represented by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Environment Agency and the Norwegian Polar Institute.
