Eastern Economic Forum holds charity run to protect rare cats

2 September 2016

On 2 September, a charity run in support of Amur tigers and Far Eastern leopards was held on Russky Island on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum. The race was initiated by Sergei Ivanov, Special Presidential Representative for Environment Protection, Ecology and Transport, and Chair of the Far Eastern Leopards Supervisory Board. Over 600 guests attended the event, including Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, Environment Minister Sergei Donskoi, VTB United League General Director Ilona Korstin, and speedskater Ivan Skobrev. The minimum participation fee was 300 roubles.

"This race spells consolidation round charity ideas on the tiger and leopard protection projects, and proof of our dedication to healthy living. It is a crucially important event," Mr Peskov said.

"There are no losers in this run, and its winners are as agile as leopards," Mr Ivanov said.

At the finish, all the runners received medals representing tiger and leopard footprints. Organisers of the charity run raised over 1 million roubles, which will go towards projects to protect rare cats.
