‘Wild cat train’ launched on the grey line of the Moscow Metro

29 July 2016

On 29 July, the Moscow Metro rolled out a renewed Striped Express themed train. All of its eight carriages are decorated with info-graphics depicting various stages of the life of Far Eastern leopards and Amur tigers.

The train was launched on the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya Line to mark International Tiger Day. "We are launching yet another Striped Express. It's not the first such train in the Moscow Metro," said Pavel Nabatov, acting chief of the Varshavskoye maintenance facility. The same day, metro ticket offices received special tickets designed in a similar "wild cat" style, he added.

Leading experts on Far Eastern leopards and Amur tigers filled the Striped Express with content, while young illustrators created a design for it.

“Passengers will read and take in this knowledge, and with time their view of the world will change. When they find themselves in a forest, they will recall that leopards and tigers live there, and therefore they must behave according to the rules dictated by wildlife,” said Yelena Gangalo, general director of the Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation.

Sponsored by the Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation, the Amur Tiger Centre, the Moscow Metro and the Russian Geographical Society (RGS), the new themed train project is intended to focus public attention on the need to save and preserve the populations of the endangered wild cat species in the Far East. The first Striped Express in the Moscow Metro was launched on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line in late September 2015.
