Moscow Metro launches a train with images of rare felines

28 September 2015

The Striped Express, a special themed train decorated with photos of Amur tigers and Far Eastern leopards, has been launched on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line of the Moscow Metro for Amur Tiger Day marked on 27 September. The ‘cat train’ is the joint project of the Russian Geographical Society, the Amur Tiger Centre and the autonomous non-profit organisation Far Eastern Leopards.

“Vladivostok is celebrating Amur Tiger Day, the main environmental holiday in the Primorye Territory to support this rare animal, this last weekend of September,” Ivan Ostashko, Moscow Metro spokesman, said at the gala launch ceremony.

“The Striped Express project will display the images of rare wild cats such as the tiger and leopard, and promote the importance of treating them carefully,” he added.

The Striped Express is the 11th special themed train in the Moscow Metro, but it’s the first to include a floor with images, in addition to the walls and ceiling. The ‘cat train’ will run permanently on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line.
