Krasnoyarsk Territory holds environmental lessons to mark Snow Leopard Day

21 October 2022

23 October marks International Snow Leopard Day. Employees of the Khakassia branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve held lectures about snow leopards for students and schoolchildren to mark the day.

Second-year students from the Shushensky Agricultural College, sixth- and seventh-graders from secondary schools, and club members from the Shushensky District extracurricular centre attended the environmental lessons organised by the Joint Administration of the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve and Shushensky Bor National Park together with the Khakassia branch of the Russian Geographical Society. Specialists spoke about the life of the rare cats, as well as their conservation programme in Russia, under which two snow leopards from Tajikistan were released in the Sayano-Shushensky Reserve in 2018-2019.

International Snow Leopard Day was established in October 2013 at the Global Snow Leopard Conservation Forum held in Bishkek. The event was attended by representatives of all snow leopard range countries. Russian regions hold numerous events, contests, lectures and environmental lessons dedicated to this wild cat annually as part of International Snow Leopard Day celebrations.
