Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve gets new footage of a snow leopard

12 September 2022

While checking the memory card of a camera trap installed in the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve, scientists obtained new footage of the rare snow leopard. The footage was taken near one of the marking spots on a hot June day. Judging by the video, it was not easy for the snow leopard to endure the heat – the temperature was +32°C on the day of filming.

"Snow leopards usually take shelter from the scorching sun. This time, the male decided to wait out the heat near a marking spot, which is located near a water source. Perhaps that is why the animal stopped here to rest," members of the reserve's research team said.

The Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve continues its work aimed at preserving and studying the local group of snow leopards. In 2022, research is carried out with the grant support of the Russian Geographical Society.
