The Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve and the Khakassia branch of the Russian Geographical Society have started their 2022 season of joint field research. Experts will spend three weeks carrying out maintenance work on camera traps: replacing batteries and memory cards, and adjusting the network of cameras. During the expedition, scientists will also install new cameras they received at the end of 2021. The new camera traps will go up at points that scientists determine using tracks left by animals in the snow.
Motion-sensor cameras have been helping scientists at the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve to study the local fauna for almost 15 years. The database of camera trap photos and footage is constantly updated, and long-term observations provide new information about various species living in the reserve.
