Winners of My Snow Leopard festival visit Khakassky Nature Reserve

20 September 2021

The organisers of the 9th international media wildlife festival, My Snow Leopard, have held the concluding event and organised a tour for the winners to the Oglahty area in the Khakassky Nature Reserve.

The tour began at the nature reserve’s office in Abakan. Tour participants visited the Museum of Nature and hiked along the Nature’s Live Yearbook eco-trail, learned about the activities of the Khakassky Nature Reserve and its animal and vegetal life. Then they conquered the Oglahty mountain range, famous for its petroglyphs. Festival winners climbed up 965 steps to the Sorok Zubyev (Forty Teeth) mountain and then went to the visitor’s centre there where they learned even more about the history of the Khakassian land.

In conclusion, the winners were awarded certificates and presents from the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve and the Khakassky Nature Reserve.

The international media wildlife festival, My Snow Leopard, was established in 2013 by the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve and the Khakassky Nature Reserve with the backing of the Khakassian branch of the Russian Geographical Society. Since 2020, the top winners have been taken on an educational trip to the Oglahty area.
