On International Snow Leopard Day, the guided tours facility of the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve marked International Snow Leopard Day with grand events.
Youngsters from the Shushenskoye children’s home attended the celebrations, and children from the Muravei (Ant) game reserve performed an improvised tale about the snow leopard for them. Those present also watched a film about the snow leopard, with the young people later taking part in a sand drawing workshop. After watching the tale and the film, a lot of the children opted to draw snow leopards. The event culminated in a joint photo opportunity.
Instituted in 2013 during the Global Snow Leopard Forum, International Snow Leopard Day is celebrated every 23 October.
The snow leopard is included as a vulnerable subspecies on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Today, the entiresnow leopard population is estimated at between 4,000 and 8,000 animals, with 50 to 60 snow leopards living in Russia.
