Following the annual winter count in Eastern Sayan, Buryatia, it was confirmed that nine snow leopards permanently reside there. The data was obtained from motion-sensor cameras.
Experts recorded a female snow leopard with two cubs by trails in the snow and another female leopard with a cub got caught by a camera trap. In addition to the already familiar animals, the experts discovered traces of a new brood of snow leopards in the Okinsky District.
In 2018, count of snow leopards is taking place in all their key habitats in Russia, including Buryatia, Altai and Tyva. The overall information concerning the condition of the population and the numbers will be presented in May.
