Sailyugem: Land of the Snow Leopard exhibition opens in Altai

11 August 2017

A photo exhibition, Sailyugem: Land of the Snow Leopard, has opened at the Extra-Curricular Educational Centre in the Republic of Altai. It premiered this spring at the republic’s National Theatre, and travelled to the Chemalsky District to be displayed at the 16th Inter-Regional Environmental Expedition for Russian School Children and Teachers. The exhibition will be open until the end of August, and admission will be free.

The exhibition consists of about 30 photos of rare animals and landscapes of Sailyugem National Park, including images of a Pallas's cat, argali sheep, Siberian ibex and the snow leopard that inhabit three clusters of the first national park in Altai.

In September, the photo exhibition will move to the village of Kosh-Agach to be displayed at the national park’s visitor centre. “Thanks to our photographer friends from across Russia, photographs from Sailyugem National Park are now famous across the world. People eager to see our park can visit it, and if they do not have the opportunity, they can see the photo exhibition to learn about this protected area and its inhabitants. We hope that the residents of Kosh-Agach and tourists will appreciate our exhibition,” said Valentina Semenchenko, the national park’s deputy director for environmental education, tourism and recreational activities.
