Snow leopard cubs born at the Moscow Zoo nursery

2 June 2017

The Moscow Zoo’s Centre for Rare Animal Species Reproduction, located in the Moscow Region, has welcomed the birth of its first newborn snow leopards.

The cubs’ father came to the nursery from Switzerland, and their mother, Adetta, is from Moscow. The cubs are still blind, and their mother stays by their side at all times. Zoologists do not disturb the newborns, whose exact number is not yet known.

The Centre for Rare Animal Species Reproduction was established in 1994 in the Volokolamsky District, 97 km away from Moscow. It is home to over 1,000 animals of 160 species. Seventy-eight of these species are listed in the Red Data Book of Russia and the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
