Winners of the Wild Cats of South Siberia contest announced

The Wild Cats of South Siberia contest of drawings, photos and souvenirs took place on 1 August – 15 October 2015 as part of the My Snow Leopard international media wildlife festival. Over 200 participants from Russia and foreign countries sent in their works dedicated to the snow leopard, manul and lynx.

 

The jury was led by Dmitry Gusev, a graduate of the Russian Academy of Arts and a member of the Russian Geographical Society, and comprised professional artists and biology experts. The panel evaluated the biological accuracy of the drawings and the artists’ drawing skills.

 

The contest was held in the Drawing, Graphics, Souvenir and Photography categories. The best works were selected for a mobile exhibition, Kis-Eskiz, which was open in Shushenskoye on 26 September - 1 October at the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve administrative and tour complex. The exhibition then travelled to the Shushenskoye Children’s Art School and on 12 October moved to educational and cultural institutions in the Republic of Khakassia.

 

The winners in the Drawing category are Alexander Dyogtev from Moscow with his acrylic painting “Throw” (Adult group), Yulia Kucherenko from Moscow and her spray painting “Sweet Manul” (Youth group) and Yelena Soldusova from Sayanogorsk with her piece “Snow Leopard Hunt” (Children group). The winner in the Graphics category is Alexei Vladychkin from Lermontov; Arkady Laptenko from Novosibirsk, who sent in a picture of a manul, was announced the winner of the Photography category. Nadezhda Meisner from Abakan, who embroidered a snow leopard, won the Souvenir category.

 

The My Snow Leopard international media wildlife festival was initiated by the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve, the Khakassky Nature Reserve and the Khakassia branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
