Contest devoted to South Siberian wild cats gets underway

3 August 2015

On 1 August 2015, the Wild Cats of South Siberia media contest of drawings, photos and souvenirs began accepting entries. Anyone can participate by sending in their entry via post or email.

The contest was initiated by the Sayano-Shushensky Biosphere Reserve, the Khakassky Nature Reserve and the Khakassia branch of the Russian Geographical Society. The contest deals with the ecology and biology of South Siberian wild cats, the features of their habitats, and how these animals communicate with each other and with other species. The aim of the contest is to encourage interest in wild cats and make people aware of the need to preserve and study the rare wild cat species inhabiting South Siberia.

Entries will be accepted through 15 September 2015, in the Drawing, Graphics, Photography and Souvenir categories. Then, a panel of judges will have until 20 September to select the finalists. The final round will take place from 26 September to 15 October. The contest will culminate in the Kis-Eskiz exhibition, to be held first in the village of Shushenskoye and then at the Kyzlasov National Local History Museum of the Republic of Khakassia in Abakan.

Information about the contest and participation rules is available on its website.
