During their expedition in the Khakassky and Pozarym reserves from June 21 to July 15, the researchers gathered information from the cameras they had installed in the winter and checked their technical condition. They also installed new cameras based on their studies of snow leopard routes from 2009 to 2011.
The researchers paid close attention to the Siberian wild mountain goat population – the main prey of snow leopards – and studied the areas where they typically stay in the summer. They determined that the goats change their routes in the summer and either head to the goltsy zone or leave for the northern slopes. They set up three cameras in these areas to define the borders of the goat habitat and to establish the routes of the snow leopard.
After the expedition, they updated their species inventory lists and image bank.
