Snow Leopard Land Festival to be held in Altai

31 August 2012

The Snow Leopard Land Festival, aimed at highlighting the problem of snow leopard preservation in Russia, will be held in September in the Republic of Altai. This holiday unites countries which are home to snow leopards and was first held in the Republic of Altai in 2011. The Snow Leopard Land Competition Day and the Snow Leopard Land Festival was held in Gorno-Altaisk, the region’s capital, with guests attending from Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the United States.

In 2012, the idea to stage the festival was supported by the government of the Republic of Altai. There are plans to hold the event as part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Oirot Autonomous Region.

This year, like last year, the Snow Leopard Land Festival in the Republic of Altai is held in two stages – the spring competition day for teachers and pupils, and the September one-day festival featuring a concert programme, eco contests, exhibitions and special platforms for spectators on Gorno-Altaisk’s main square.
